Ingredients
  

For the Grits:

  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp Kosher salt
  • 1 cup yellow grits
  • 2 tbsp salted butter
  • 1 cup shredded white cheddar

For the Shrimp & Sauce:

  • 4 slices bacon chopped
  • lbs shrimp peeled & deveined
  • cups onion chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp hot sauce
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ cup green onions
  • ¼ cup parsley

Instructions
 

  • Bring milk, water, and salt to a simmer. A

  • Stir in butter and cheese. Cover.
  • Cook bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside.

Notes

  • You can substitute grits with polenta if preferred, though cooking time may vary.
  • For extra flavor, use smoked paprika in place of some of the cayenne.
  • Make it Cajun-style by adding chopped bell peppers and celery to the onion base.
