Ingredients
  

For the Filling:

  • 2 tablespoons oil or butter
  • 1 pound ground lamb or beef
  • 1 cup onion diced
  • 1 cup carrot diced
  • 2 cloves garlic chopped
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour gluten-free if needed
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce gluten-free if needed
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary chopped (or ½ teaspoon dried)
  • 1 teaspoon thyme chopped (or ½ teaspoon dried)
  • 2 bay leaves optional
  • 1 cup peas
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Topping:

  • 4 cups hot mashed potatoes

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add ground lamb and cook until browned, about 7–10 minutes.
  • Drain excess fat, keeping 2 tablespoons in the pan.
  • Add onion and carrot. Sauté for 5–7 minutes until tender.
  • Stir in garlic and tomato paste. Cook for 1 minute.
  • Sprinkle in flour, then stir.
  • Add broth, Worcestershire sauce, rosemary, thyme, and bay leaves.

Notes

  • You can use leftover mashed potatoes or instant mash for a shortcut.
  • Ground turkey or meatless crumbles also work for a lighter or vegetarian version.
  • Add corn or mushrooms for more veggie variety.
