Ingredients
  

Marinating

  • 1 lb beef flank steak or skirt steak
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tsp peanut oil
  • 2 tsp cornstarch

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tsp dark soy sauce
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Stir Fry

  • 2 tbsp peanut oil or vegetable oil
  • 1/2 white onion sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic sliced
  • 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger sliced
  • 1 lb asparagus trimmed and cut into bite-size pieces (or use 1 bell pepper)

Instructions
 

  • In a medium bowl, combine beef with baking soda, soy sauce, oil, and cornstarch.
  • Mix and let marinate.
  • Mix all sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add beef in a single layer and cook 1 minute per side until golden. Remove to plate.
  • Add remaining oil to the pan.
  • Cook onion, garlic, and ginger for 2 minutes.

Notes

  • Baking soda tenderizes the beef—don’t skip this step for restaurant-style texture.
  • Flank or skirt steak works best; slice it thinly against the grain for tenderness.
  • If using bell pepper instead of asparagus, cook for 2–3 minutes to soften slightly.
